About the Role: High School Spanish Teacher

As a High School Spanish Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in developing global citizens. You will become an expert in your course content and inspire high school students to communicate confidently in Spanish. Your classroom will be a safe space where students can express themselves and prepare for academic autonomy and college-level work.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Enhance students' bilingual skills and understanding of Spanish through a curriculum designed for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate coursework.
  • Build students' confidence in navigating authentic print and audio sources.
  • Teach essential foreign language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Cultivate cultural awareness and appreciation for the Spanish language.
  • Foster a community of confident Spanish speakers.
  • Collaborate with the Spanish department to set academic and engagement goals.

2. Data Analysis

  • Engage in weekly meetings with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide resources that support their child's learning needs.
  • Participate in practice-based professional development and mentorship sessions.
  • Engage in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and encourage student achievement.
  • Collaborate with your grade level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • A passion for collaboration with internal and external partners for the benefit of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Spanish or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 . Starting pay is determined by various factors, including relevant teaching experience and education certifications. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $50,000.
